Iris attended Flat Creek School at Iron Mountain owned by Mountain Copper in Shasta County before attending and graduating from Shasta High School in 1944. Iris met William “Bill” Sobiski, and they were married in 1946 shortly after Bill returned from serving in the United States Army during World War II. They settled in Central Valley which became the City of Shasta Lake where they later built a new home.
Iris worked for Hawkey Trucking in Redding before going to work at Citizens Utilities Company of California in Redding where she retired in 1987 after over 30 years of service. She enjoyed her time at Citizens immensely where she made many life-long friends. Iris was very generous during her lifetime which she attributed to her father’s examples of generosity which she witnessed as a young girl.
Iris is survived by her two nieces, Kathleen Ruhe, and Ellen Kelley. She was predeceased by her parents, William “Shorty” and Nellie Williams, sister Dorothy Kelley, and brother Gordon Williams.
The family would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the staff at Sundial Assisted Living in Redding where Iris resided for the past ten years. Iris truly appreciated the staff’s dedication and kindness to her.
A graveside remembrance to honor Iris’s life will be held on December 13, 2023, at 1:00 pm at Lawncrest Chapel, 1522 E. Cypress Ave., Redding, CA 96002.
