James (Jim) was a veteran of the army. He was drafted in 1966 and honorably discharged in 1968 due to injuries. He was a proud veteran. He spent much of his life in sales but also worked for the Anderson School District for many years, where he served as the president of the classified employees union. He was a 1964 graduate of Enterprise High School. He especially loved playing BINGO and dining with friends. He loved playing softball when younger, and he was an avid Giant baseball and diehard forty-niner football fan his whole life.
He was a loving, kind man. He was with his loving mate of 16 years, Jean Rushing, when he passed. He is survived by his brother John and his wife Kris, his sister Beulah and her husband Harry Hagerman, and multiple nieces and nephews. Jim became a surrogate father to multiple children during his life, whom he loved dearly. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Grace Briggs, and his older sister and brother-in-law, Edna and Fred Kensy.
It was Jim’s wish to be cremated. Jim’s internment will take place at the Northern California Veterans Cemetery near Igo, California. The ceremony is scheduled for 2:00 PM on Monday, April 28th. The funeral procession will begin at 1:00 PM from Lawncrest Memorial Park located at 1522 East Cypress Avenue in Redding with transfer of his remains from the funeral home to the Patriot Guard Rider vehicle, which will lead the procession, at approximately 12:45 PM.
