1942 - 2011
Marjorie Gantner, age 69, died in Redding after a fight with cancer on
March 17, 2011.
She was known as Maggie, Maggie May, Mags, Fifi, sometimes Snow White and Margie to her sister.
Maggie was born to Clarence "Pat" and Verneta Dunn in San Francisco, CA on February 19, 1942. She was head songleader at and in the first graduating class of Montgomery High School in 1959. She grew up, married and raised her family in Santa Rosa, CA. In 1992, Maggie and her husband, John, moved to Redding, CA.
Maggie's greatest joys were her family, friends and very active social life. She was a member of multiple bridge clubs (one for over 41 years), a card-making club and the Last Chance Chorus Line (oh, the spectacle!) She enjoyed camping, gardening, crossword puzzles, and played the card game "Hand and Foot" with her husband every night for 19 years.
She was a friend to everyone; strangers loved to talk with her. She was a very independent woman.
Maggie is survived by her husband, John Gantner of Redding; her daughters, Julie Gantner of San Francisco, CA and Jennifer Sparks of Santa Rosa, CA; her sister and brother-in-law, Sharon and Louis Cantarutti of Santa Rosa, CA; her grandsons, Tyler Sparks and Irish O'Gorman of Santa Rosa, CA; and nieces and nephews.
The family invites friends to a celebration of her life at her home in Redding on Sunday, March 27, 1-5 pm.
There will be no services.
