Shadrick Maynard Overstreet, 81, of Redding, CA, passed away on April 19, 2025. He was born in Richmond, VA to George and Elizabeth Overstreet on March 19, 1944. Shad was known for his love for Jesus; his unwavering faith carried him through life's many challenges. Shad loved people and served anywhere needed - children's ministry, benevolence, opening his home to someone in need, or taking out the trash - he had a servant's heart.
Shad made a promise to the Lord to share the gospel anytime he was asked about his famous “Born To Lose” tattoo he received in the Army, at a low moment, while drunk. He would say, “I was actually born to win, let me tell you why,” and then he would proceed to share the gospel of Jesus Christ.
Everything Shad did - whether it was mowing the lawn, working on a house project, and even throughout his career as a professional spot repair painter at GM for 30+ years - he did it unto the Lord. He used every opportunity to show people Jesus’ love.
Shad had a great sense of humor. He smiled and laughed often. He was an encourager. He was a helper. He was always wanting to help people. He loved his family immensely and his grandchildren held a special place in his heart.
He is survived by his wife, Sue; children, Michele, Tracy and his wife Elizabeth, Jonathan, Christopher and his wife Stefanie, Angela, and Timothy and his wife Ashley; grandchildren, Luke and his wife Katie, Erin, Brielle, Jubilee, Mabel, Jeb, and Lottie; great-grandchildren, Summer, Autumn, Hope, Harlan, TJ, Lydia, and Leah; sister, Arvada; brother-in-law, Wayne; nephew, Wayne Jr.; great-niece, Haley; and cousins who were like siblings, Jerry, Judy, and Nancy.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Elizabeth, his granddaughter, Brittany, niece, Nikki, great nephew, Tyler, and cousin Reuben.
A Celebration of Life will be held on May 3, 2025, at 4:00pm in the Great Room at Bethel Church, 933 College View Dr., Redding, CA 96003.
