Lenore M. Plue was born February 11, 1929 to her parents: Elmer and Isobel Hodges in Greensburg, PA. Lenore peacefully passed away on November 5, 2021 at the age of 92. Beloved wife of Elden H. Plue for 70 wonderful years. Loving mother of Roger (Susan) Plue, Ellen (Alan) Sadler, and the late Robert Plue. Cherished grandmother of Katrina Niemisto, Lauren (Scott) Leigh, Hannah Plue, Morgan Plue, Matthew Plue and Brendan Plue. Dear sister of the late William Garland and the late Norma Adams. Much loved aunt, friend, and sister to all who knew her.
Lenore met her husband, Elden, at Western High School in Detroit, 75 years ago. They married after both finished their degrees, in 1951. Lenore and her family resided in Livonia for 45 years. She and Elden have been members of Rosedale Gardens Presbyterian Church in Livonia since 1956.
Lenore received a Bachelor’s Degree from Wayne University in Food Service management, and spent many years creating wonderful meals and using her skills in coordinating themed dinners, large parties, church madrigal dinners, banquets, and of course big holiday dinners and cottage gatherings for the family.
Great food was always the focus of any family gathering, whether on vacation trips, camping, or at the family cottage. When the grandchildren came along, she invented ‘Camp-Do-What-Cha-Wanna’, another themed 3-4 day venture with the little ones that made wonderful memories with their grandparents.
Deeply proud of her children and grandchildren, she was particularly proud that all three children earned college degrees, and advanced degrees, and that her six grandchildren would as well. Four of them have achieved professional degrees, and the youngest two are enrolled in local universities, still working toward their degrees.
In her younger years, she was active in the church bowling league, was an avid golfer, and loved playing pinochle with the neighborhood ladies. She was a Cub Scout Den Mother, Girl Scout Leader, and active in the PTA of her children’s schools.
She was a friend to all who knew her. She maintained a friendship with eleven ‘girls’ from her high school days, 75 years of friendship. The ‘Slick Chicks’ met monthly for their entire lives, her ‘sisters’ children all called her Aunt Lenore, and still do. At her church, she belonged to a women’s circle and had many friends there through the years. Her childrens’ friends were always made welcome in their home, camp site at Camp Dearborn or the family cottage, often calling her ‘Mom’ affectionately. All of the kids loved her.
She was the coolest mom around and enjoyed the same music as her children. She loved Chubby Checker and Fats Domino, until she heard the Beatles. Bob Seger, Chicago and the Rolling Stones were also favorites, along with Michael Jackson. She often would put on some music and dance while doing household tasks. At any wedding, she would always get up to dance to ‘Proud Mary’, her very favorite song.
She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday December 18, 2021 at 11am (visitation to begin at 10am) at Rosedale Gardens Presbyterian Church.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Lenore's memory can be made to Rosedale Gardens Presbyterian Church.
