Charles Allaire Langdon, aged 89, passed away peacefully on August 8, 2024, in Redmond, WA surrounded by his family. Born on April 22, 1935, in Long Island, NY, Charlie lived a life dedicated to the service of others and the joy of family.
He was a devoted husband to Marilyn Berkes Langdon, whom he married in 1960. Together, they built a loving family, including their four children, Charlie Jr. (Carol), Jeffrey (Michele), Karen (Mike DeStefano), and Peter (Darcy). Charlie was known as “Wonderful Pa” to his grandchildren Allaire, Spencer, Chad, Alexine, Brooks, Jackson, Caroline, Grace, and Berkes, for whom he cheered endlessly and enthusiastically. He treasured his honorary grandchildren Julia & Lizzy and their mother Andrea.
Predeceased by his parents, Charles Henry Langdon and Katherine Allaire, as well as his brother, Robert Langdon, and his baby daughter, Ann Langdon, Charlie leaves behind a legacy of kindness, advocacy, and inclusion.
Charlie retired after a distinguished career in Social Work and Child Advocacy, where he worked tirelessly in both New York and Washington to improve the lives of countless children and families. In 1980, Charlie’s appointment as Executive Director of Children’s Home Society of Washington brought his family and talents to the Pacific Northwest. His dedication to helping others will continue to inspire all who knew him.
Outside of his professional life, Charlie was passionate about his family, boating, reading, and community service. He was known for his warm, welcoming nature, always ready to offer an open door, words of praise, a dose of humor, and a sense of inclusion to everyone he met.
