Gene Powers, 66, passed away November 18, 2013, after a short illness. He was born to Robert Powers and Maxine Maier Powers in Yakima, Washington, the oldest of eight children. He received his BA degree in mathematics from Washington State University in 1969 and began a 43-year career in IT. He spent his early years in Yakima, Washington. He lived most of his adult life in Redmond, Washington. He retired in July, 2013, from the City of Woodinville.
Gene, a man of intelligence, courage, strength, integrity, and dignity, led an honorable life. From an early age, he took his big brother role seriously, and throughout his life, he remained stoic, calm, kind, supportive and patient with his family, coworkers and friends. He was often sought out for his wise counsel, generally given with a wry wit. Even to his last days, he was unselfishly putting everything right in the world for others.
Gene is survived by his beloved wife of 42 years, Linda; his daughters, Erin (Ryan) Vanderwel and Megan Powers; his grandson, Jenson Vanderwel; his brothers, Rick (Julie) Powers and Craig (Sjohn Jepsen) Powers, and his sisters, Kathy Addington, Wendy Nash, Julie Powers, and Paulette (CJ) Banning. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Sally Powers.
A funeral mass will be held at St. Jude Catholic Church, 10526 166th Ave NE, Redmond, Washington 98052 on Tuesday, November 26, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. Reception will follow at the church in the Lovett Hall. Cedar Lawns Funeral Home and Memorial Park, Redmond assisted in funeral arrangements.
Internment at Calvary Cemetery in Yakima will take place at a future date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the American Cancer Society.
