George Dwight Hennessey (87) passed away peacefully on Monday, June 26, 2023 in Snohomish, Washington. George was born on Dec 12, 1935 in Winslow, Arizona to George Thomas and Fanny Standifird Hennessey.
George grew up in Arizona and graduated from his beloved Arizona State University with a degree in Geology. He married Norma “Jill” Flygare on Sep 9, 1957 in Salt Lake City, UT. Over the next 26 years, they moved with their children throughout the western states. As a well-known and highly-respected geologist, George worked for Sunshine Mine in Idaho, Kennecott Copper Mine in Arizona, and ASARCO, Precision Custom Milling, and Bear Creek Mining all in Montana. Later he went into business for himself heading the companies: Hennessey Gold and Silver, Nuclear-Visual, and Spokane Bullion, all headquartered in Spokane, Washington; and Temple Summit Financial Projects and Columbia International Corp. based in Las Vegas NV. George’s marriage to Jill ended in 1983 and he began his 32-year relationship with Sedemola Goudelock until her death in 2015.
George was the life of the party. He always had a story that was bigger than life and a contagious laugh you couldn’t help but get caught up in. He loved working and playing outdoors and with his knowledge of ores, rocks and metals, he could tell you the minerals, history and use of any rock you brought to him. He loved to travel and was asked to explore mines in many states and countries to identify found minerals.
He is survived by his children: Robert Hennessey, Spokane, WA; Laura (Rex) Smith, Auburn, WA; Steve (Pam) Hennessey, Springville, UT; Linda Krulish, Fall City, WA; Michael (Nicole) Hennessey, Salt Lake City, UT; 15 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters Barbara Harvey, Susan Fredrick, and Ida (Lonnie) Carmichael all of Arizona. He was preceded in death by his son Paul Hennessey and first wife Jill.
