Ray was born on January 1, 1926 in Minneapolis, Minnesota and passed away on July 22, 2014 in Redmond, Washington. His parents were Raymond A. and Mathilda Keeley. He had one brother who died in 1962.
He graduated from high school in Chetek, Wisconsin and then enlisted in the Navy and served until the war ended. After his discharge he worked as a telegrapher for the Milwaukee Railroad in Minneapolis. There he met Elaine Larson and they were married in 1950. Their 2 children, Diane and David, were born in Minneapolis.
He also sold pre-need cemetery lots. He did very well so was given the opportunity to manage Cedar Lawns Cemetery in Redmond. So, in 1961 the family made the big move to Washington. We joined Faith Lutheran Church in 1962. Ray served on the Church Council and was an active member of the church for many years.
After a few years Ray decided to return to railroading, which he always enjoyed. He was hired by the Burlington Northern Railroad and retired in 1988, after 25 years of service.
In his younger days Ray liked to go fishing and duck hunting. After retirement he enjoyed spending time with his family, traveling and golfing with friends. Over the years he got a "hole in one" 4 times!
Ray was a very loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Elaine, daughter and son-in-law, Diane & David Beck, son and daughter-in-law, David & Mary Keeley and 4 grandchildren, Katie (Beck Rawlings), Adam Beck, Stephen Keeley and Jeremy Keeley.
