

After 101 amazing years, Myrtle Haupert passed away the evening of January 9 at Brookdale Senior Living Home in Redwood City from congestive heart failure. She had been ill four months. Myrtle was born July 29, 1915 on a farm in Gibsonburg, Sandusky, Ohio to George Humberger and Hattie Carnicom. After graduation, she moved to Toledo where she met Paul Haupert. They were married in 1942. The couple later retired to Florida, where Myrtle continued to live until she moved to Redwood City, California in 2006. Always involved in the community, Myrtle was a Sunday school teacher, Mothers’ Club President, Brownie leader, camp leader, Cub Scout leader but first a wonderful wife and mother. She found time to play canasta and poker, go bowling, do gardening, canning, sewing, and later returned to work, becoming the office manager of Macy’s. She also took up golf and bridge, which she continued in retirement. After her move to CA, she became an ardent Giants fan. Surviving are her daughter Judi (Rudy) Vargas of San Carlos, son James (Leyla) Haupert of Scottsdale, grandchildren Garrett (Sandra) Vargas of Sammamish, WA, Corinne Vargas of Menlo Park, great-grandchildren Ryan and Samantha, a half-sister Sandra Finn of FL and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Paul in 1983 and eight brothers and sisters. Services will be held at Redwood Chapel, 847 Woodside Rd, Redwood City on January 14 at 11:00, with a later internment at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park in Toledo. In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation may be made to the American Cancer Society or charity of your choice.
