Dominga was born May 2, 1943 in Edinburg, Texas. Her parents were World War II Veteran (Medal of Honor recipient) Pvt. Pedro Cano and Herminia Cano. Dominga and her family relocated to Reedley in the 1950’s, where she attended local schools and met her husband Salvador T. Perez. They were married and together raised 6 Children.
She was a devoted wife and mother. She loved traveling and family gatherings. Hosting holiday parties gave her so much joy. Her favorite times were when all of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren would get together, especially during the holidays.
Dominga was invited to the White House by then President Barack Obama, to partake in a ceremony honoring her father Pvt. Pedro Cano with the Medal of Honor. One of her proudest moments.
She took great pride in cooking and baking for her family. Her baked goods were always sought after. She loved crafting and she was an avid crocheter.
Dominga often assisted her son, Salvador Perez, Jr., on his costume design jobs. She crocheted several shawls for the movie Hocus Pocus 2, and made baby blankets for each of Mindy Kaling’s 3 children.
She was a very much loved member of the community.
Dominga is preceded in death by her husband, parents, and 4 sisters.
She is survived by her children: Marcos Perez, Esperanza Vargas, Salvador Perez, Jr., Robert Perez, Armando Perez, Rosalinda Perez, 15 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and 2 brothers, Susano Cano and Oscar Garza.
