It is with great sadness that the family of Anne Opre announce her peaceful passing at the age of 92, with family by her side.
Anne was born north of Southey and raised on a farm near Dysart, Saskatchewan. In October of 1957, she married John Opre, and together they raised 4 children, starting on the farm near Cupar, Sask. In 1971, they moved to Regina, which is where Anne is survived by most of her immediate family.
Anne had many passions and talents. Her greatest passion was taking care of her family.
She was the centre of John's world, ensuring he was loved and cared for during their 67 plus years of marriage. She also gave much of her life to caring for her children, particularly to her son Greg and later to her daughter Teri. When the 5 grandchildren came along, she participated in their lives and was so very proud of everyone's accomplishments. She was very humble in her own accomplishments. Never one to focus on herself, she would nurture those around her to pass on one or more of her many talents. She was a master at all things creative, such as gardening, painting, crocheting, knitting and sewing. She was also a great teacher, particularly for teaching English to new immigrants arriving in Canada to begin their new lives. She helped many people achieve their life goals of becoming a Canadian citizen, securing a job or a driver's license. She took great pride knowing that she helped others in attaining their life journeys. Anne was also very active. She loved walking, golfing, bowling, curling and dancing. To watch Anne and John waltz on the dance floor was a vision of grace and joy. She and John played cards on a regular basis, and she participated on many committees such as the CWL. She was also an excellent Scrabble and Crossword player.
Through all of these passions and activities, mom's zest of life shone through.
Anne is survived by her husband, John Opre; her children, Cathy (Darren Bast) and Lisa (David Harradence); grandchildren, Michael Smith (Tanya), Brianna Bastock (Ryan), Janae Dumont (Ryan) and Danielle Schienbein (Michael); 8 great-grandchildren, Zachary and Kenzie Smith, Sadie and Liv Bastock, Charlotte and Kaleb Dumont and Emma and Brady Schienbein; sister, Vera Walters, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Anne was predeceased by her son, Greg Opre; daughter, Teri Smith; granddaughter, Shana Smith; son-in-law, Doug Smith; her parents; brother, Paul Hopkie (Hilda); siblings, Nancy Herda (Bill), Dina Dumba (Andrew) and William Duduman (Ann), and numerous other siblings, nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff at Sunset Care Home for the love and care they provided Mom for the last 3 years. It means so much to us that she was cared for by people who thought of her as family.
A private celebration of life for Anne will be held in Regina, Saskatchewan. Arrangements have been entrusted to Lee Funeral Home, Regina Saskatchewan.
