It is with heavy hearts that we announce on Tuesday, May 23, 2023, Christian (Chris) Brenner received his angel wings and was called home at the age of 82 years young. He was a husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend to many and will be missed by all.
Chris was predeceased by his parents Christian Sr. and Elizabeth; brother Carl; sister Anna and sister Eileen (in infancy); as well as brothers-in-law Robert Hanson, Walter Adolphe, Walter Weber, and Paul Hanus; and sisters-in-law Berniece Brenner and Joan Brenner.
Chris is survived by his loving wife Agnes of 46 years; his children: daughter Natalie Brenner (June) of Regina, SK, son Justin of Calgary, AB, and daughter RaeAnn (Morgan) Henshaw of Regina, SK; and grandchildren Avery, Teo, Noah, and Bronwyn. Chris is also survived by sisters Betty Adolphe, Lorraine Weber, Hildegarde Hanson, and Beverly Maier; brothers Irvin and Elmer; brother-in-law Stan Chan Choong; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Chris was born and raised in the district of Bourneville, north of Southey, SK. He was a lover of horses and big rigs. He pulled the starting gates around Saskatchewan to many small-town sports days, which allowed him to indulge a little bit more in his love of horses. He also owned his own semi for several years with which he hauled many loads of hay for farmers around Saskatchewan. He loved being on the road and seeing different parts of our beautiful province.
In 1976 he married the love of his life, Agnes, and their first home together was the family farm in the Bourneville District. They were blessed with their first child Natalie in 1977. Justin arrived in 1981, and last but not least, RaeAnn showed up in 1983. In 1987 they left the farm and moved to Regina, where Chris made a living of his second love, driving the big rigs. Chris drove for several companies, hauling groceries and later fuel for Federated Cooperative for more than 20 years. Unfortunately, Chris had an accident in 2009, which robbed him of sight in his right eye, and so Chris retired from truck driving.
In retirement, he became an avid reader of Louis L’Amour and enjoyed doing the daily word search in the newspaper. He was a handy guy and always up to be the foreman of any of the family renovation projects. Chris was also a skillful card player, who enjoyed many evenings, visiting with neighbors and family around the table while playing Rook, Crib, and Canasta.
Chris loved spending time with his children and grandchildren and always made time for them, by attending their various sports events, choral performances, and drama nights. He particularly loved the little ones. Anyone who had a crabby baby would give the baby to Chris, and he would have them quiet and calm in no time at all. He was a baby whisperer. Small children also gravitated to him as he made them feel safe, and Chris was always a big kid at heart.
We would like to extend a special thank-you to all the staff on ward 3D at the Pasqua Hospital as well as the staff at Brightwater Senior Living for the wonderful care Chris received over the last couple of months.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or Diabetes Foundation of Canada are greatly appreciated.
