David William Howie

Surrounded by the love of his family our cherished husband, father and papa passed away on April 20th, 2013, at the age 74 at Wascana Rehabilitation Centre. Dave was born in Regina on September 20th, 1938 and obtained his education at Herchmer School and Scott Collegiate. Left with treasured memories are his wife of 50 years, Bernice; son Scott; daughter Teddi (Daryll) Malek; granddaughters Meaghan and Kaylin (their mother Lori Howie); and precious great-grandson Issiah; sisters-in-law, Geraldine and Marge Howie and Bertha (Bob) Kerr; numerous nieces and nephews; many extended family member in Canada, Scotland and Australia, numerous friends and acquaintances as well as his constant companion, Mitzi. Dave was predeceased just a year ago by his son, Brent; also predeceasing him are his parents, Elias and Jane Howie; brothers Jim (Helen); Charlie; Doug (Pat); Vern; and sister Jean (Orville);nephews Jim and Doug and niece Lynda and Bernice’s parents Ted and Mary Ladwig. Dave served as a constable with the Regina City Police for five years, then sold heavy equipment until his retirement. Dave would be the first to admit that his greatest accomplishment in life was his three children, whom he loved and adored unconditionally. Proud alumnus and Director of the Regina Rams Footballs Club, he did not hesitate to volunteer for any fundraising done on their behalf. Dave was a season ticket hold for the Rams, both the Junior and University levels; the Lady Cougars Basketball teams for many years as well as for the Saskatchewan Roughriders for a period of time. For over two decades, his love of children of all ages led him to assume the role of Santa Claus for many office parties, family gatherings and care homes. Dave was a dedicated blood donor contributing over 100 times before his health made it impossible for him to continue. The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to the doctors, nurses, and staff at the Wascana Rehabilitation Centre and the Pasqua Hospital for the excellent and compassionate care given to Dave. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday May 1st, 2013 at 2:00pm in the Chapel of Lee Funeral Home, 3101 Dewdney Avenue, Regina SK. In lieu of flowers donations in Dave’s memory may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association or the Alzheimer Society Saskatchewan.
