December 22, 1942 – November 23, 2025
Gwen grew up on a farm near Maxstone, SK. After high school, she moved to Saskatoon, then Regina, and became a teacher for the Catholic school board. She met Terry Gibney, they married and had 5 daughters.
When Michelle was born, Gwen quit teaching to stay home. When Wanda went into kindergarten, she started subbing. Over time, she was a sub at almost every school in the Regina Catholic school division. She eventually retired when her granddaughter, Bella, started school. She spent her time volunteering in the school library, watching her granddaughter play ringette, baking bread (only forgot the yeast once!), gardening, quilting, volunteering with Girl Guides, making endless pot pies with the Holy Trinity CWL, and climbing on the most rickety ladder known to man, usually while no one else was home.
In July 2024, Gwen fell down the stairs. She broke some bones, and, while she was in the hospital, they found out that she had cancer that had spread to her bones. She decided not to treat it, which gave her around 6 months to live. She spent the next 16 months travelling (to Ottawa twice, to the lake each summer, and to the Rockies), picking endless apples and cherries from her trees, joining the St. Peter's seniors’ card group, going to Forever in Motion and bible study, doing her wordles, spending time with old friends, volunteering with Girl Guides, and talking with her brother every night.
It was only in the last few days that her “get-up-and-go” was gone. The end came very quickly, and she passed away peacefully in the Pasqua Hospital with three of her daughters and the dog at her side.
She is survived by her children, Colette, Michelle, Camille, Kathleen, and Wanda; her granddaughter, Bella; her brother, Lorne; her sisters-in-law, Maureen, Leona, and Noreen; and numerous nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents, Joe and Geraldine; her husband, Terry; her brother, Leslie; two nieces, a nephew, and numerous brothers-and-sisters-in-law.
Our thanks to the Palliative Care Home Health Team who visited every two weeks, often to find mom doing something like serving Thanksgiving Dinner to 25 people, and to Dr Elgendy, as well as the Palliative Care unit at the Pasqua Hospital where she spent her last 7 hours.
