On Monday, March 4, 2024, Jane Loughren, late of Regina, passed away at the age of 86. Jane was born November 21, 1937 in Beaver Flat, Sask. as the middle child of three born to Mary and Jacob Rempel. Left behind to mourn her loss is her husband, Don, daughter Kerry (Brian) Harvey, sons Dave (Cheryl) Loughren and Jamie Loughren, grandchildren Tom, Jessica, Joe, Dan, Ryan and Megan, and great-grandchildren Irelynd and Harper. Jane also leaves behind one brother Burt (Bev) Rempel and sister-in-law Betty (Charlie - deceased) as well as several nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her youngest son Douglas in 2022, parents Mary and Jacob Rempel in 1970 and sister Wilma in 1950.
Jane graduated from Swift Current Comprehensive High School in 1956 followed by training as a Registered Nurse with the Regina Grey Nuns Hospital. Her roommate was trying to set her up on a blind date to their graduation banquet and Jane said she would only go if he had red hair. Well, the rest is history! They dated for a year and a half and married on July 14, 1960. From that moment on, Jane was dedicated to her husband and family. She had a daughter and son 16 months apart, and 5 years later, two sons 19 months apart. The family resided in Regina until 1975 and then moved to a hobby farm near Grand Coulee where they still call home.
Jane nursed many years at Wascana Hospital where she cared for long-term patients, making lasting relationships with many patients and staff alike. Jane was also active in the Grand Coulee community, and also enjoyed curling. When her husband Don became a collector, Jane was by his side; they travelled around Saskatchewan and beyond, hunting for treasures at auction sales. They increased the level of their hobby by selling items on Ebay and displaying their prizes at shows and swap meets. While Don collected oil and service station memorabilia, Coca Cola, advertising items and other collectables, Jane liked antique glassware and kitchen collectibles.
Jane and Don both grew up on a farm and also shared a love of animals of all kinds; they had several cats and dogs over the years, as well as horses, cows, and chickens. They both valued all life and did not like to take the life of any animal. They would capture mice and crickets and let them out in the field. Jane disliked spiders and when they found a particularly thick hairy one, they captured it in a jar and drove it to the outskirts of Regina, so that there was no chance of it returning.
Jane also had a deep connection with her grandchildren; she spent a lot of time with them as children and hosted wiener roasts and holiday get-togethers. Jane and Don attended every birthday, sports game, school concert, graduation, and any other important event in their life. Jane also spent as much time as she could with her great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers and in memory of her son Doug who she lost to addiction, donations can be made to “Moms Stop The Harm”, a network of Canadian families impacted by substance-use-related harms and deaths at momsstoptheharm.com.
I carry your heart; I carry it in my heart.
A light from our household is gone, a voice we loved is stilled, a place is vacant in our hearts that never can be filled.
Although your smile is gone forever and your hand I cannot touch, I still have so many memories of the one I loved so much. Your memory is my keepsake with which I’ll never part. God has you in His keeping, I have you in my heart.
