It is with great sadness we announce Dad's passing at the Regina General Hospital on June 8, 2015. Dad was predeceased in 2011 by Betty, his wife of 65 years. He is survived by his daughters Lynda (Nick), and Carol, granddaughter Kristen (Luc Fortier), grandsons Michael (Lindsey Snow), Dylan and Lucas and great grandsons Benjamin, Elliott and Alexander Fortier. Dad enjoyed his family and was thrilled to tell everyone that the recent addition of Alexander increased the fourth generation. Dad grew up on the family farm near Kincaid Saskatchewan and attended Westwood Valley School, a rural one room school. In 1937 he enrolled in the School of Agriculture at the U. of S and graduated in 1939, with a diploma in Agriculture. During the war, Dad enlisted in the R.C.A.F., trained for aircrew, graduating as a navigator with a Commission. He served with the Canadian Ghost Squadron (428) in Bomber Command. While stationed in England he met and married Betty. After the war, Dad's career path led him to work with Veteran's Land Administration, as a settlement Officer at Carlyle, Estevan and Regina. While with V.L.A., Dad became an accredited land appraiser (A.A.C.I. certificate #127) with the Appraisal Institute of Canada. In 1960, he transferred to the Farm Credit Corporation, here he held a various of positions from supervisor of appraisal training to Saskatchewan Branch Manager. In 1972 he was transferred to Head Office in Ottawa as Director of Small Farms Development Program later taking over the position of Director of Lending and Loan Administration. In 1978, after taking early retirement Dad and Mum returned to Regina. Until 1988 Dad ran his own land appraisal business; major projects he worked on included the Nipawin and Rafferty Dams. On the 75th Anniversary of the University of Saskatchewan, College of Agriculture Dad was proud to be honoured with a "Distinguished Graduate in Agriculture" Award. In 2006 Dad and Mum moved to Queen Victoria Estates, and in 2014 Dad moved to the Wascana Rehab Centre, veterans unit. Cremation has taken place and a private interment will occur at the Riverside Cemetery Field of Honour. The family would like to acknowledge, and thank those who cared for Dad at the Wascana Centre and E5 at the General Hospital. Rest in Peace Dad and good fishing.
