Leonard James Lockert was born to George and Lorriane Lockert on August 15, 1955. He grew up on a small dairy farm east of Vibank, Saskatchewan. There he learned the benefits of hardwork, and developed his love for sports and the outdoors alongside his siblings Carol (Larry), Larry (Marie), Leetta (Bill), and Kevin (Erin).
Len married Lori (Marchuk) in 1980 and they settled in Odessa, Saskatchewan. Shortly after this, Len began working at Partner Technologies Incorporated (PTI), which turned into a 30 year career.
Len and Lori started their family in 1988 with the birth of their first daughter, Laurinda. They then welcomed two more children, Leandra (1989) and LJ (1993). Len and Lori maintained a busy lifestyle raising their three active children. Len’s summers were spent coaching his girls on the fastball diamonds and his winters were spent coaching his son at the hockey rinks. As the years passed, Len traded in his bat and glove for his beloved “Putt Putt” where many weekends were spent exploring the Qu’Appelle Valley and surrounding area with friends and family. Trips to the rink became less frequent and more of his time was spent puttering around his shop. “Papa’s Shop” was the favorite hangout spot for Len and his friends and family. When he wasn’t at the shop, he could be found on a golf course (near and far), or in a boat with a fishing rod in his hand.
Papa Len stepped back into his coaching role for both hockey and ball, alongside his son-in-law Kyle Strass, when his grandsons Everett and Theodore came along. Len was constantly bragging to everyone how great his boys were and enjoyed showing everyone photos and videos.
Len was a man you could lean on for anything. He was always there with a listening ear and ready to give advice whether you wanted to hear it or not. Len was known for his quick-wit and sarcastic humor. He was quick to lend a hand, or a Makita tool, to a friend in need. If there was a project you had in mind, he would get it done.
A Celebration of Len’s Life will be held at the Odessa Community Hall at a later date. Please share your cherished memories and photos with the Family below.
