It is with great sadness that the family of Lypa (Lee) Anne Salikin announces her passing on April 6, 2018 at the age of 87 years in the Regina General Hospital. She has touched many lives with her kind, gentle spirit and zest for life. Lee liked people and very much enjoyed her long-time employment as a taxi driver in Kelowna and Regina. After retiring from her driving job she became a regular user of the Regina Transit System and Para-Transit. Her days were brightened when she got to ride with her favorite drivers and surely she brightened a great many of their days with her sweet demeanor. Keeping active in her later years, Lee travelled regularly to visit her family and friends in British Columbia, Alberta and Northwest Territories. She loved to share memories, mementos and artwork from those trips. One of her greatest loves was music, from Classical to Rock & Roll. Lee enjoyed attending live concerts with her children. From Kenny Shields/Streetheart, Bob Dylan, Buffy Ste. Marie, Van Morrison, Carol Burnett, Lily Tomlin, Rita McNeil, Irish Descendants, Tom Jones, Tony Bennett, George Carlin, The Smothers Brothers to performances of The Regina Symphony Orchestra in Regina and at Motherwell Homestead. She also enjoyed Folk On The Rocks Music Festival in Yellowknife, NWT, The Great Mackenzie Festival of The Arts in Inuvik, NWT and the Mosaic International Festivals in Regina. Other interests included water color and oil painting, reading, baking bread, cooking her Russian dishes and other international dishes that she had tried in ethnic restaurants. Although she lived simply and humbly, Lee always helped those less fortunate than her by giving regularly to causes closest to her heart. Regular recipients were local food banks, Canadian Red Cross, Salvation Army and Souls Harbour and in times of local or distant disaster such as families displaced by fire, flood or other emergency she would help with funds when she could. She loved country trips even after she stopped driving whether by STC or by car with family. They usually included many small towns on different routes for the best sightseeing adventures. Lee is survived by her five children Greg (Karen), Carla (Larry), Joel, Carmela (Eric), Carey (Brenda) and all of her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Lee was cremated at Lee Funeral Home in Regina and a private family Celebration of Life will be held at a future date. Anyone wishing to remember Lee by making donations in her name may do so to the Veregin Doukhobor Heritage Museum, P.O. Box 99, 1st Avenue South, Veregin, SK, S0A 4H0.
