Maria Groenendyk

Maria (Rita) Groenendyk was born on July 12, 1929 in Sommelsdijk, South Holland, Netherlands and passed away on Tuesday, February 28, 2023 in Regina, SK at the age of 93 years. In hospice, she lost her battle with metastatic adenocarcinoma with her sons at her side.

She was predeceased by her mother Maria Overbeeke, and her husband Huibert Groenendyk.

She leaves to mourn her sons Adrian and Mark; grandchildren Michael and his wife Arian, Kelly and her husband Brett, and Jon; great-grandchildren Avina, Zoya and Axel; as well as her step-brother Maarten Overbeeke.

As per Maria’s wishes, there will be no funeral service held. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hospitals of Regina Foundation or to Regina Wascana Grace Hospice.

A special thanks to the nursing home Royal Oaks during her last year of life (plus a bit). Thanks to all the doctors and staff at Pasqua Hospital, Emergency and Ward 4A. Thanks to all the caregivers at Regina Wascana Grace Hospice.

Oma, as she was known to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, loved to face time with them, and see photos of them. Maria loved to tend to her flowers and windmill in the front yard flower garden. She loved to go out to the cottage at Island View to be with friends, family and nature.
