It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the death of our beloved mother, Pearl Fisher on Thursday, October 24th, 2013. How our mom faced her health challenges is a testament to the strength of her character & willpower.
It is with comfort that mom goes to join her loving husband, Michael, her treasured infant boy, Ronald and her cherished daughter in law, Marilyn. Mom is the final sibling to join the loving arms of their parents, Norman & Matilda LaFontaine. Our mom leaves to mourn her eight remaining "PEARLS": Donna May (Gerry), Duane (Lorraine), Darrel (Carrie), Rhoda (special friend Rod), Terry (special friend Charlotte), Lance, Darin (Dannette), Reg (Shelley), and her precious 14 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
As a devoted mother she was gentle and firm and her household ran smoothly as we all had our jobs to do. Mom used praise and encouragement to discipline her large family unit. She taught us to work together as a team and help and support one another and other people. She taught us not to speak ill of others and to show kindness and gratitude. She taught us respect, compassion and love. She led by example a healthy lifestyle. She believed strongly in the power of prayer. She was very proud of the educational & career accomplishments of all her children, her grandchildren & great grandchildren. Besides being a doting mother to her 8 children, she also had a large extended family that she cared for. Her warm, inviting and comforting personality put people at ease almost immediately and, most often than not, people adopted her as their "Mom', "Auntie" or "Grandma" and she loved them dearly.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or to mom's favourite charity fundraiser, the Huron Carole, which raises funds for the Food Bank. She was always super thrilled to attend the VIP parties and meet all the artists, especially Tom Jackson. Please support this worthy cause this year by attending the concert on December 9th at the Conexus Arts Centre. See you there mom!
The family wishes to thank the caring staff of Unit 3-3, the Recreation and Music Therapy and Chaplain departments of the Wascana Rehabilitation Center, for all the kindness that you gave to our mom over these last 4 years.
Prayers will be held at Victoria Avenue Funeral Home, 7 p.m. on Monday, October 28th, and the funeral mass will be held at St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church, 100 Argyle St. at 10 a.m. on Tuesday October 29th.
Following the funeral mass and lunch there will be a graveside service and our mother will be buried alongside our father's grave in the LESTOCK cemetery
Funeral arrangements entrusted to the Victoria Avenue Funeral Home, 2080 Victoria Avenue E. (across Vic Square Mall) P: 306-761-2727 .
