Phyllis Young

Phyllis Margaret Young (nee Meginbir) passed away peacefully at William Booth Grace Hospice on May 15, 2024 at the age of 74. Phyllis was born in Assiniboia on March 21, 1950 to parents Arnold D. Meginbir and Elfreida Pauline Meginbir.

Phyllis was predeceased by her father Arnold in 1991, mother Elfreida in 2011, Angela in 1991 and niece Marla DeLaGorgiendiere in 2019. Phyllis is survived by her husband Trevor; brothers Gerry, Paul and her favourite Lorne; sister Hedy Smith; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Phyllis grew up on the farm near Vantage, attended elementary school in Vantage and Assiniboia and attended Assiniboia Composite High School. Phyllis married Trevor M Young on May 16, 1970. Phyllis studied Education at the University of Regina where she got her teachers certificate and worked at several schools in Regina. Her favourite school was Peart School where she worked with disabled children. She also worked at Wascana Rehabilitation Hospital in Occupational Therapy working with adults and children. She fell in love with one special child, Angela, and we ended up bringing her home and raised her as our own.

Phyllis’ greatest love was music. She played the organ at church services starting at the age of 15 and continued until 1998 when she broke her wrist. Phyllis was very active in singing in choirs at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church over many years and acted as choir director at St. Peters Lutheran Church in Estevan.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, May 22 at 2:00 p.m. at Lee Funeral Home and Crematorium, 3101 Dewdney Avenue, Regina, Saskatchewan.
