It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Reginald (Reg) Degelman on Tuesday, July 12, 2022 in the Regina General Hospital MICU, at the age of 78. Reg was born on June 26, 1944 in the Lestock Hospital, oldest child and only son, to Bill and Anne (Moroz) Degelman. He was raised on the farm just outside of Raymore, SK and attended the Wallenstein Country School and Quintin and Raymore High Schools. Reg met the love of his life, Margaret Moyor, in 1963 and the two married October 16, 1965 at the Mary Queen of All Hearts Church in Lestock, SK. They moved to Southey shortly after they married and resided there until September 2018 when they relocated to their condo in the city. They raised three sons Jason (1970), Jeffrey (1973) and Bradley (1975) in Southey and were very active members of the community. Reg began his working career at the farm of Wilfred Degelman, moved to the grain elevator, Anderson Industries and after its closure he moved onto Morsky Construction and then to Flaman Sales. Reg and Margaret also did the maintenance for Sask Housing Authority in Southey, where he took great pride in his diligent work. Reg coached his boys’ hockey teams, played senior hockey for the Southey Marlins, rec hockey for the Southey Sabres and loved hunting, fishing, camping, snowmobiling, volunteering at the Southey rink, helping friends on their farms with combining, playing scratch cards, buying motorbikes without Margaret’s knowledge or approval, buying Pot of Golds and attending the rink. Any rink! Reg’s most prized possessions were his two grandchildren, Hunter and Emy. He was the biggest LBMHA, PSMHA, Regina Pat Canadians, Steinbach Pistons and Martin School of Dance fan. There weren’t too many grandparents that were as proud as this Papa and he sure didn’t have a problem letting anyone and everyone know they were his “tiger” and “tweet tweet”. He and Margaret were fixtures at every game, tournament, road trip, competition and recital and proudly wore team jackets, hats, toques, rode team/fan buses and always sat front and centre. Reg’s infectious, yet devilish smile, sense of humour, many stories, lack of filter, selflessness, brylcreemed hair, sparkly blue eyes, blaring TV with his cowboy or wrestling shows, requests for “red drinks”, “Diet no ice”, “peanut kahlua” or a cold Coors Lite!, presence at the rink, coffee shops, skate pit at Extreme or Jason’s office will be missed by so many. Cherishing his memory is his wife of 57 years, Margaret, sons Jason (Lisa, Hunter and Emersyn), Jeff, Brad (Suzi), brother-in-law Joe (Emalene) and sister Sharon. Reg was predeceased by his parents Bill and Anne Degelman, mother and father-in-law Joe and Margaret Moyor, sister Mildred Stanhope and sister-in-law Barb Moyor. A very heartfelt thank you to the many “sunshine” health care providers at the Allan Blair Cancer Centre, 4C Pasqua Hospital and Regina General Hospital MICU, especially nurse Bailey. In lieu of flowers, in memoriam donation in Reg’s honour, may be provided to a hospital foundation of your choice or to the Allan Blair Cancer Center ([email protected]).
