Our beloved father, grandfather, brother and husband Robert Herbert Goodwin of Regina, Saskatchewan died peacefully and in no pain on the morning of May 10, 2019 on the Palliative Care unit at the Pasqua Hospital, at the age of 72. He was predeceased by his parents Edith and John Robert Goodwin; sister Marina Trask; Uncle Herbert Mutter; brothers-in-law Max Benko, Jerome, Conrad, Clarence, and James Schermann, and Alex Liss; and sister-in-law Elaine Schermann. Left to mourn him is his wife of 48 years, Joan Goodwin; children Natasha Kitz (Blake) and Byron Goodwin; grandchildren Kaitlynn, Mercedes, Danielle and Brooklyn Kitz, Ryan (Jessica), Daryian, Reese, and Lexi Goodwin; great-grandchildren Darius, Aubrey, and Kayde Goodwin; sisters Pauline Benko and Roberta Bender (Chuck); brothers and sisters-in-law, Eloy Schermann, Bunny Schermann, Norman Schermann, Senan Schermann (Nadine), Marie Liss, Sylvia Schermann, Abdon Schermann (Linda), Cyril Schermann, Wanda Nolte (Mark), Patrick Schermann (Cheryl), Bibiana Jardine (Bruce), Lorelei Schurman; numerous nieces and nephews and many family friends. Our dad was born on August 19, 1946 in Lestock hospital. He grew up in Semans Saskatchewan, the youngest of 4 children and the only son. He attended Semans School and eventually made his way to Regina where he met and married Joan Schermann. They were married on Dec 12, 1970. Natasha Lynn was born in Calgary on September 9, 1971 and Byron Robert on Aug 30, 1972. Dad started with Canada Safeway on Dec 7, 1968 in Regina. They moved to Calgary shortly after they were married and he continued to work for Canada Safeway in Calgary. The family eventually moved back to Regina in the summer of 1982 to be closer to most of the family. He also worked for Canada Safeway in Regina before retiring in 2011 at the age of 65. His hobbies included playing pool, playing cards and watching the Toronto Blue Jays on TV. He loved his animals Spike and Ginger and they loved him back. Our dad’s wish was not to be in pain so along with my mom, brother, daughter and husband we kept him at home as long as we could. We are forever grateful that he only spent 36 hours in hospital before he passed. From the start of his journey until the end our dad was surrounded by the love and support of his family. We will continue to hold him in our hearts and smile knowing he is truly resting in peace. Special thanks goes out to the Palliative Care home care staff along with the Occupational and Physio therapy departments. Without their help, our dad would not have been able to stay at home as long as he did. Thanks to the ABCC for their care and compassion towards our dad. At our father’s request, there will be no formal funeral service. Cremation was held on May 14, 2019. Arrangements entrusted to Victoria Avenue Funeral Home and Cremation Centre in Regina, SK.

So sorry for your loss. Your dad, husband, grandpa was a great man. Always there with a smile, a story and curiosity. I will always remember those days playing cards with him and uncle Clarence. We know what those 2 will be doing as they watch us from above.

Lots of love and God Bless each of you.

I’m very saddened to hear of Bob’s passing. I have many good childhood memories of the Goodwin family and I wish you (Joan, Byron, Tash and all their spouses and kids) all well.

My favourite memory of Bob is him telling my dad a story of a trip to the states where Bob got a bottle so cheap....I better not finish this one ....hahaha

Joan, Byron, Tash,

I enjoyed every minute I ever spent with you guys and it was always a highlight of my trips to Regina. You made me feel like family!!!

Be well,

Although it has been a few years since we had seen each other I cherish all the laughs we shared working through the night at Safeway and the early morning pool games and the odd beer. You will be missed dearly by your family and friends

My parents Rick and Loralee were really good friends with Bob and when Joan and him would come to visit our family I just remember the four of them playing cards all night. They had so much fun. I also remember going for fish and chips with them. Bob had such a great sense of humour and was very kind. I will surely miss him.

I am so saddened to hear of the passing of this man who a long time ago I lovingly referred to as Bobert when I was a teenager and took up residence for a week or so with Natasha. Forever etched in my mind is the blaring tribute to Roy Orbison the day he passed away. I am sure we could here the music coming from the house two blocks away. Natasha, Byron and Joan my heart hurts for you all as I know the love you shared as a family. Sending so much love to you and your yours. --Carlene
