January 29, 1939 – June 6, 2024
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our beautiful mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Velma was 85 years old.
She was predeceased by her son, Lyle; her parents, Andrew and Katherine Kelemen; her loving husband of 49 years, Peter Lorence; and sister Isobel.
Velma is survived by her daughters Arla (Kim) Ryan and Lisa (Frank) Winkel. She will be lovingly remembered as “Nan” by her granddaughters Krissy and Ali Winkel (Teo), and she will hold a special place in her step-grandson’s, Kris (Sara) and Scott (Morgan) Ryan, hearts. Velma is also survived by her brother, Al (Pat) Kelemen, sister, Dolores (Eugene) Orban, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Velma grew up on a farm near Arbury, SK. She moved to Regina in 1954 to attend school and live in a convent. Velma was a hard-working woman who was always up for a challenge. She was a loyal employee of Sears for 30 years before going back to school to become a medical transcriptionist. When she wasn’t working, Velma was known to enjoy sewing, baking, playing cards, listening to music, and spending time with her family. She was also known for her avid love of the Saskatchewan Roughriders. Velma gave so much of her time to her family; she gave herself freely and requested nothing in return. Velma had a strong-willed and feisty personality that will be missed by all.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Lee Funeral Home in Regina, SK on June 14, 2024 at 10:00 am. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Velma can be made to Palliative Care at the Pasqua Hospital through the Hospitals of Regina Foundation at https://hrf.akaraisin.com/ui/HRFDonation. The family would like to thank all the important individuals involved in Velma’s care, and especially Dr. Mohamed, who treated her with the utmost compassion during her final years.
