

She was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, Robert A. Richards. Born in Mayfield, Kentucky, she was a daughter of the late William C. Hicks and Kathleen Thornton (Clark) Hicks.
She was a 1939 graduate of Reading High School and attended Albright College. Martha was a homemaker for many years, raising her three children: David L. of Fleetwood, married to Kathy (Carlson) Richards; John C. of Lancaster, married to Erika B. (Werner) Richards and Elizabeth (Richards) Stamm of Reading. She is also survived by six grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
Martha was known for her prolific reading over a wide variety of subjects. Her favorite place for many years was the Reading Public Library where she borrowed many a book. She loved gardening in her yard and tending to her flower beds. She loved to travel on summer vacations with the family and had several international pen pals over the years with whom she regularly corresponded.
Martha lived in several states including Kentucky, Texas, West Virginia and finally Pennsylvania. She attended West Lawn United Methodist Church in West. Lawn, PA. Martha will be remembered for her wonderful sense of humor and her delicious southern cooked meals.
Services will be held in West Lawn United Methodist Church, 15 Woodside Avenue, West Lawn on Wednesday, June 11, 2014. Friends and family may view from 1:00-2:00 p.m. in the church. Interment in Forest Hills Memorial Park, Reiffton will be private.
