Survived by James, her husband of 65 years, her children, Ruth Van Wechel (Don), Paul (Chris), Bill (Anne Healey), and Susan (Carl Uhlman) plus 6 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
Carolyn was born in Denver, CO, the daughter of Alfred and Marian Nelson, she attended the University of Denver and graduated from Iowa State University. She and Jim moved to the Seattle area in 1954. Carolyn was a devoted mother and wife, as well as an educator and volunteer. Scores of children in the Lakeridge/Bryn Mawr area learned to swim under her watchful eye. She taught early childhood education for several years at Highline Community College. With her Home Ec background, Carolyn volunteered for the King County Extension Service, including serving as a judge at the King County Fair for many years. In their retirement, Carolyn and Jim enjoyed traveling throughout the US and to several other countries.
Carolyn was always generous in heart and humor, and was a faithful friend to many people. She brought the fun to family trips and events. Her sparkling countenance and cheerful presence will be greatly missed. A memorial service will be held this Fall. Our family is grateful to Brookdale of Kirkland and Evergreen Hospice staff for their tender care of Carolyn. In lieu of flowers, donations to the P.E.O. Program for Continuing Education are welcome and can be sent to P.E.O. Executive Office, 3700 Grand Ave., Des Moines, IA 50312. - See more at: http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/seattletimes/obituary.aspx?page=lifestory&pid=175289824#sthash.OR5QpvQD.dpuf
