Chai married Fou Wang Saeteurn in Laos and they had 5 children, 2 sons, and 3 daughters. After her husband died in 1966, Chai moved her family from the mountains of Laos to Luang Prabang. In 1975, Chai moved her family to Thailand to escape the communist war of Laos.
Chai lived in a Thailand refugee camp from 1975 to 1980. In 1980, she moved with her family to the United States and resettled in Seattle, WA. Chai had much gratitude for the University Congregational United Church of Christ in Seattle for their sponsorship, kindness and resettlement assistance. Chai became a United States citizen in 1998.
Although Chai was small in stature, she gave us all such courage, strength, and hope and reminded us of the preciousness of life. She loved to garden and embroider. She could spend hours listening to tradition Mien folk music while embroidering.
Chai is survived by children, Saeng Orn, Muang Wang, Nai Wang, and Saeng Ching; seventeen grandchildren; twenty-nine great great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Fam Wang.
