Eleanor and Leslie attended a country school to which they walked unless it was especially wet, cold or snowy, then their father would drive them in a horse drawn wagon.
Eleanor liked school and excelled. She took piano lessons and could play all her life. She also learned all the homemaking skills, cooking, baking, canning, sewing and used these expertly in her own home. As a girl she especially liked cutting the homemade noodles.
After marrying Kenneth Lee Dalton July 11,1937, they moved to Pittsburg, California, where he worked in a U. S. Steel Co. mill. They had three daughters, Jeanette, Margaret and Nancy (Gerald Mix). Once the girls were in school Eleanor became active in the community, especially in P.T.A. and as a 4-H group leader for many years. All three daughters became members of 4-H and had projects in cooking, sewing and electricity.
Eleanor worked for Montgomery Ward as a salesperson and assistant manager. She was known to be particularly accurate at estimating carpet amounts. She and husband, Ken, had a large circle of friends that played cards and square danced. In retirement they traveled extensively with an RV around the US and Mexico. They sold their properties in Pittsburg, CA and built a retirement home in Camino, CA, a small mountain town. They greatly enjoyed living in the mountains among the trees.
Kenneth died after 50 years of marriage and Eleanor continued living in the mountains. After awhile she took ballroom dancing lessons and this became a new activity. She joined a dance club and became its Ways and Means Chairman, organizing fund raising activities. She often planned and prepared meals for than 100 people.
During this period she worked part-time for a neighbor's day care and preschool. In 2004 Eleanor married Lloyd Giberson. They moved to a mobile home park in Placerville, CA. She gained five step sons with this union, Dennis (Sharon), Mitchell (Louise), Michael (Pat), Kenneth (Cathi) and Gayle (Louise).
Widowed again in 2007 she moved north to Vantage Glen Senior Park, Renton, WA. There she became active in the community and enjoyed activities with her neighbors. She lived there happily for 17 years until her health began to fail at age 105.
Eleanor lived her last six months at Solstice Senior Living, Renton. She made more friends, played Pinochle, and received many visits of family and friends. In September she received the Seattle Mariners 2024 Fan of the Year award.
Eleanor left this earthly life peacefully the evening of November 29, 2024 under care of Providence Hospice. Pat Wyre and daughter, Jeanette, were with her.
She leaves daughters Jeanette Millmann and Nancy Mix (Gerald), five grandchildren, 7 great grand children and 18 great great grandchildren. She was predeceased by daughter, Margaret Hernandez and grandson, David Millmann. She was greatly loved and is greatly missed.
