

Evaristo (Eddie) Villanueva Batayola died on the evening of July 6, 2017 after a short battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born on June 18, 1940 in Fort Stotsenburg, Pampanga, Philippines to Conchita (Villanueva) and Felipe Batayola. Eddie was the oldest of eleven children, ten boys and one girl. He relished being the Kuya and was dedicated to his family.
In 1960 he imigrated from the Philippines to the United States of America with his family and settled in Seattle. He served in the US Army from December 1963 until August 1969. After his honorable discharge, he landed a permanent job at Lockheed Naval Shipyard with the Boiler Makers Union. In 1969 he was was introduced to his future wife, Carmelita (Mely) Algarme, by a common friend. They married on July 31, 1971, in Seattle, WA and had two sons, Charles Edward and Edgar Conrad. In 1973 they bought their first home in Beacon Hill then moved to Fairwood in 1978.
He was a proud provider for his family. Eddie worked in the Boiler Makers Union for 10 years and was sent to various locations throughout the northwest including Handford and the Alaska Pipeline. After the Boiler Makers Union he worked as a ship fitter at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard for 20 years, retiring in 2002.
Eddie loved taking cruises with his wife. They traveled the world together, going to every continent. He was always looking forward to the next trip and made it a point to take an Alaskan cruise for his birthday every year. Eddie also enjoyed going to casinos with friends and hosting the family Christmas parties. He was a generous person and loved spending time with family and friends. He was one to show love by doing things for people, like making a special breakfast for the grandkids.
He is preceded in death by his parents Conchita and Felipe Batayola and his brothers Romeo, Donaldo, and Ernesto. He is survived by his wife, Carmelita (Algarme), his two sons Charles and Edgar, his daughter-in-law, Christine (Engan), and three grandchildren, Donald, James, and Lily . He is also survived by six brothers, Raul, Renato, Felipe, Arthur, Reuel, and Benjamin and his sister, Betty.
There will be a viewing and vigil at Greenwood Memorial Park on July 16, 10:00AM - 4:00PM, 350 Monroe Ave. NE, Renton, WA 98056. A funeral mass will be held at St. Anthony's Catholic Parish on July 17th, 11:00AM, 416 S 4th St., Renton, WA 98056 with committal at Greenwood Memorial Park immediately afterwards.
