Greg was born on April 15, 1952, in Aberdeen, South Dakota. In 1962, his family relocated to Renton, Washington, where Greg would spend the rest of his life. He was known for his gentle nature, quiet strength, and kind spirit.
From 1971 to 1977, Greg served honorably in the United States Air Force, where he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Air Force Good Conduct Medal, and the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal (Korea).
Greg is survived by his brothers, Steven and Dennis Koenig; his sister, Theresa Paladin; his nephews, C.J. Koenig, Doug Koenig, and Brady Koenig; his nieces, Amber McClain and Jamie Koenig; his former sister-in-law, Kathie Swenning; his great-nephew, Tallon; and his great-nieces, Maleah, Kaeden, and Presely. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert “Bud” and Phyllis Koenig.
Greg found joy in life’s simple pleasures—he loved going on walks, watching his favorite TV shows like Hawaii 5-0, Blue Bloods, and Zorro, and spending quality time with his extended family.
A memorial service is being planned at Greenwood Funeral Home, with the date to be determined. The family will share more information once arrangements are finalized.
The family also thanks Continuum Care Hospice for helping make it possible for Greg to be comfortable in his home during his final days. Their compassion and support were deeply appreciated.
Greg’s warmth, loyalty, and kind spirit will be remembered always by those who knew and loved him.
