Herman was born on August 24, 1933, in Sioux City, Iowa, the son of William E. Wright and Dora E. L. (Gronlund) Wright. Later the family moved to Allen, Nebraska, where he attended Allen schools thru the middle of 9th grade, moving to Minnesota to graduate from Jackson High School in 1951. He obtained an Aircraft Mechanic degree from Worthington Technical College in 1952.
After college, he married Marcella J. Roberts on June 15, 1952 in Allen, Nebraska. They moved to Kansas where they raised four children – Rolland, Galen and twins, Elaine and Ellen.
Herman hired on at Boeing in Wichita as a modification mechanic, but he was laid off in 1960. He had many jobs such as working at a boat company, doing farm labor, assembling Coleman camp stoves, and selling Rawleigh products. In the fall of 1961, he was rehired by Boeing in Renton, Washington, and the family moved to Kent, Washington. He continued working for Boeing for 30 years, retiring in 1992.
Herman enjoyed “farming” in the Kent valley for many years, tending the family’s large garden. He also enjoyed volunteering, reading, and telling stories – there wasn’t a soul he wouldn’t talk to.
Herman is survived by his wife of 70 years, his four children, seven grandchildren, and 5 great grandchildren; sister, Linea Rue, of Minnesota, and brother, Warren Wright, of Connecticut, and many extended family members. He will be greatly missed by all those who knew him.
