Jean grew up in a loving Christian home. She was baptized by Reverend Theodore Simon of New Pilgrim Baptist Church in Woodworth, Louisiana. Her early years were spent on the farm with her parents where she helped with farm work and provided live-in support to her Aunt Matilda Jett on weekends. She graduated from Carter C. Raymond High School in Lecompte, Louisiana and moved to Seattle, Washington in 1963. There, she initially lived with her sister/matriarch, Joanna, and was near her brothers Leroy and Eugene and other family members. On June 18, 1966 Jean married Leon Eugene Ward in Seattle, Washington. In 1997, she relocated to Los Angeles, California to live at Jewel Care and to be near her sister, Mary. Later, Jean rededicated her life to Christ and became a member of Greater Height Baptist Church.
Before Jean became ill, she was employed by The Boeing Company, working in the tool room as a Dispatch Clerk and was later a Custodian for another company. Jean was Resilient! She suffered the loss of her mother at the early age of 13, and experienced many ups and downs through her life journey. She was always able to quickly bounce back from adversity, and withstand and adapt to hardships. She experienced God’s unprecedented favor over and over again. The ongoing miraculous providential hand of God upon Jean’s life was always evident.
Jean was a person of few words. So, whenever she did speak, her words spoke volumes and we all listened. Jean was kind to everyone. She loved the Lord. She loved babies and little children. She loved traveling and being on the go. She loved gospel and old school music. She loved her family. And, she loved her some good food. Before becoming disabled, Jean started each day on her knees in prayer.
Jean D. Ward was called by God to be at rest on Friday, October 29, 2021.
Jean is preceded in death by her parents Kenneth & Mary Hardison. Brothers: Thomas Henry, Albert Leroy and Eugene Stanley Hardison. Sisters: Charlotte Sanders Hardison, Aplis Ruth Faibvre, Kenneth Lee Green and Frances Loraine Smith.
