October 9th, 1930 – April 23rd, 2024
Our loving mother, Jewel Lucille Box, was called home on April 23rd, 2024 at Valley Medical center with her daughters at her side. While she was on comfort care, there was always a family member with her. She was 93 years old.
Lucille was born on October 9th, 1930 in Watonga, Oklahoma to Jewel and Nora James. Her given name was Jewel Lucille, but she was known as Lucille to most. She was the 2nd daughter of four children, growing up between Oklahoma and California. When Lucille was in high school in Porterville, CA, she met J.C. Box and they were married on Dec. 7th, 1947.
Lucille's life was marked by her unwavering love and dedication to her family. She was the devoted mother of four children: Carla, Michael, Johnny, and Lori. Lucille's love extended beyond her immediate family to her five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews, all of whom brought her immense joy and pride.
Throughout their lives, they lived in various places, finally settling in Orting, WA in 1979. Lucille worked at Continental Mills (otherwise known as Krusteaz Pancake mix) until her retirement. J.C passed away in 1984 and Lucille continued living in Orting until she was no longer able to live on her own. From there she moved into an assisted living facility in Sumner where she lived until she needed more care. The last 2 years, she lived at Seasons Home Care, an adult family home, in Renton, where she received wonderful loving care.
Lucille's kindness and generosity touched the lives of many. She was known for her gentle spirit, warm smile, and compassionate heart.
She is proceeded in death by her husband, J.C (1984), her son Johnny (1978), her parents, Jewel & Nora, her sister, Thelma (2023) and youngest brother, Jerry Don (2020) and her son-in-law, Bernard Ottesen (2003). She is survived by her daughter, Carla Ottesen of Renton, son James Michael (Joanne) of Graham, and Lori Gayman (John) of Sequim, five grandchildren, Michael (Tracy), Kristy (Mike), Brian, Danielle (Levi), Casey (James) and four great grandchildren, Hunter, Chase, Maverick and Mabel Lucille. Her surviving brother, Clarence, lives in CA.
Jewel's memory will be forever cherished by her family and friends. Though she may no longer be with us in person, her legacy of love, kindness, and compassion will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
She will be laid to rest at Greenwood Memorial Cemetery in Renton beside her husband J.C and son, Johnny in a private family graveside service.
