On Saturday, September 28, 2019, John George Kamla passed from this world to join his parents, sister, and many friends who have gone before him. He will watch over those left behind, including his sister Janet, daughter Jeannie and sons Tom and Dan (wife Kim) as well as grandchildren Kristina, Colin, Hailey, and Logan.

John was very social always choosing activities where he could share experiences with others. He loved to dance, spinning all the pretty ladies around the dance floor. He also enjoyed traveling, cycling, camping, bowling and cross country skiing.

His passion for airplanes and flying encompassed his 20 years of service in the Air Force (Lt. Colonel), career of 34 years as a Draftsman Engineer for Boeing, as well as his life-long hobby of model airplane design, building and free flight competitions.

John was affectionately known as “The Hugger" due to his practice of sharing kindness by giving free hugs on every major holiday and often times on an ordinary day. The world has lost a Hugger. Help fill the void and give a hug every day.

Dad was a big supporter of the Union Gospel Mission Seattle. In lieu of flowers, please help continue this giving by making a donation at https://www.ugm.org/

Uncle Johnnys visit to Texas in 2000. And of course... we went out and flew airplanes while he visited. I built two of his award winning model the P-30 "Marie" and the first one flew near perfect on its maiden flight. A tribute to him and the woman he named it after.
I can only imagine some of the things I could have learned from him had he been closer. He was a very talented man and so is his sister my mom Janet.

I would like to express my deapest sympathy for the family. I met Uncle Johnny when our family vacationed in Seattle. I had the opportunity to camp by the ocean with Uncle Johnny and my cousins. I was taught how to catch, cook and eat Smelt fish. Quite an experience for an Iowan child’s first time at an ocean. Uncle Johnny had an infectious smile. I was fortunate to see Uncle Johnny in August prior to his passing, while my mother (his sister Janet) and I were traveling.

Did lots of things with Johnny when young. Built kites, taught me to change a bike tire etc. Enjoyed hiis visits to our Winter home in Tx. Wish I could have played a few more cribbage games with him.
