

Loren William Mangold (Bill) was born in Frisbee Missouri on November 3, 1920, the son of William Henry Mangold and Frances Jenkins Mangold. He was one of seven children, survived by his sister Lavada Curtis, and son Harley Mangold (Andrea Mangold), their three children Renee’ Mangold Barger (Randy), Kim Townley Clayton (Tom), Jason Mangold (Karen), and five great grandchildren (Katie Mangold, Mac Barger, Hannah Townley, Mitchell Mangold, and Sophie Barger). He was preceded in death by his wife Lillian. Bill died peacefully on July 27, 2017 after a battle with prostate and bone cancer. He was 96 years old.
Bill served two tours in WWII, and was stationed on the USS Duluth and the USS Colorado, where he was in active combat in the South Pacific. He was honored with various medals and accolades; American Defense Medal, WWII Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic Pacific Theatre Medal-5 stars, Philippine Liberation ribbon-1 star, and the Philippine Independence Ribbon. After the war, he worked for Boeing as a Millwright for 42 years and retired in 1983.
Bill loved to fish, hunt, camp, clam dig, and play golf. He was an avid Mariner and Seahawks fan, and rarely missed watching a game.
