She was born on November 1, 1930, in Seattle to Kenneth and Helen (Pollock) Windley. An only child, Louise spent time hiking and fishing with her parents. She played the piano and the violin in her youth. She was also very involved with the Order of the Rainbow for Girls and for a time held the office of Worthy Advisor.
Louise graduated from Lake Washington High School, Kirkland, in 1948 and studied business skills at the University of Washington until she met a young man just out of the navy. She was doing spins in the practice room at Rollerland - "she fell and he FELL" as they liked to say. Louise and Sy Wallace were married on June 30, 1950, and they had three children. Sy passed away in 1985 after more than 35 years of marriage. Louise reconnected with John Burr whom she had previously met while enjoying one of her favorite things, square dancing. They married in 1987 and along with John came four grown sons and a young daughter. John and Louise had been married for 15 years when he passed away in 2002.
Louise loved sewing and worked selling sewing machines and teaching at Auburn Sewing for many years. She volunteered with the Children’s Orthopedic Hospital, making Humpty Dumptys for their gift shop to sell. She also loved playing her organ and growing and arranging beautiful dahlias. She particularly liked square and round dancing. Louise and Sy belonged to the Whirl-A-Ways dance club where they spent many enjoyable evenings. Louise had always been interested in bridge and after John passed she started playing regularly at the Renton Senior Center. She made many good friends there and in addition to playing bridge, they took road trips and cruises together. In 2016, after nearly 60 years in her beloved home in Renton, Louise moved to an apartment in an assisted-living facility about three miles away. There she continued to play card games and she became an ambassador to the new residents. She again made many friends.
She was predeceased by her parents and her husbands. She is survived by her children, Sylvia, Kenneth, Kathryn, and Teresa; grandchildren Elizabeth, Katherine, Jacob, Ashley, Jared, Rachel, Jennifer, Chris, Kelly, and Rick; and great-granddaughters Elizabeth and Makayla.
She will be missed by all her family and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Seattle Children’s Hospital can be made in her memory.
