

Devoted Mom, Grandma, Great Granny and Aunt. Phyllis was born to Gerhardt “Gerry” and Jennie (Sandum) Johnson in Stanley, ND on October 12, 1934. She moved to the Seattle area with her parents in 1938, living in the Rainer Beach area. She graduated from Franklin High School, Seattle, WA in 1952. It was in Renton, WA at the Roller Land Skating Rink that she met the love of her life Milton Keith Evenson of Pequot Lakes, MN. They married on April 3, 1954 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Seattle, WA.
She is survived by 3 daughters; Vicki Heise of Renton, Julie (Charles) Birch of Issaquah and Jill (Rick) Shaw of Issaquah. 9 Grandchildren, Jennie Heise, Chad (Mariya Kovacich) Birch, Brian (Ayla) Birch, Kyle (Kelsey) Heise, Corey (Melody) Birch, Jessica (Santos) Reyes Salgado, Jared Birch, Nicholas (Caitlin) Shaw, Jayme (Gavin) McCracken and 11 Great-Grand Children; Mika, Elie, Keegan, Preston, Perry, Addie, Grayson, Wally, Brayden, Elroy, and Evelyn. Many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, and son-in-law Bob Heise.
Together with her husband they were former owners of Dairy Valley in Rainier Beach from the mid-1960’s through the mid-1970’s. She worked with her parents her whole life; first at Columbia Bakery, from 1952 - 1962 and later at Cleo’s Apparel in Columbia City from1963 - 1991. She was a member of Cross and Crown Lutheran Church in Renton, WA. She enjoyed going to their beach house in Grayland, WA, crocheting, playing cards, board games, reading, crossword puzzles, Facebook, and Words with Friends. She was also a super fan of the Seattle Mariners. Her family meant the world to her. She loved the gatherings with family and friends and she was like a second mom to many of them.
On Thursday, March 30, 2023 there will be a pre-service reception of fellowship & storytelling from 9 am-12 pm followed by a graveside service at Greenwood Memorial Park - 350 Monroe Ave NE, Renton, WA. A celebration of Phyllis’s life will take place at Cross and Crown Lutheran Church - 10940 SE 168th St, Renton, WA at 1:30 pm.
