Rosita Vasquez Silong passed away peacefully in her sleep on the morning of September 11, 2025, at the age of 97. A woman of quiet strength and grace, Rosita enjoyed a long life blessed with good health and vitality. In her final days, though she grew physically weaker—like a candle gently burning low—she remained mentally sharp, full of spirit, and deeply connected to those around her. Even on her last day, she recognized everyone by name, moved about on her own, and refused to be confined to bed.
Rosita was born on June 17, 1928, in the Philippines to Lazaro Vasquez and Roza Agbayani. In 1965, she married Alejandro Silong, and together they had one daughter, Lalaine. After Alejandro’s passing in 2011, Rosita immigrated to the United States to live with Lalaine and her family in Washington.
Rosita was the heart of her family—cherished by her daughter Lalaine Altmyer and son-in-law Jeff, and deeply loved by her grandsons: Dominique, Kevin, Chester, and Daniel. Her devotion to her grandchildren was evident in everything she did. She often said she could never move back to the Philippines permanently because she couldn't bear to be far from them.
Rosita was an incredibly hardworking and independent woman. Even into her nineties, she continued to cook, wash dishes, do laundry, and iron—always preferring to care for herself rather than rely on others. She was known for her resilience, selflessness, and unwavering commitment to family. She also loved to travel and was always happy to join Lalaine and Jeff on long road trips, contentedly riding in the back seat, enjoying the journey.
Rosita maintained strong ties with her extended family—cousins, nieces, and nephews—who will all miss her dearly. She was raised Catholic and, just a month before her passing, accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her Savior.
Her life was a beautiful testament to quiet perseverance, deep love, and enduring faith. Rosita will be lovingly remembered and forever missed by all who knew her.
