

Barbara Louise Hiser Stephens, 91, peacefully passed away on Sunday, August 21, 2016 at her home. She lived a long and rich life. Her warmth, joy and unconditional love touched all who knew her. Love of family was the cornerstone of her existence.
She was born Barbara Louise Hathaway to Orville James and Virgie May on August 20,1925 in Gibsonburg, OH. Barbara was raised on a farm with her brother and two sisters in Bradner, OH. While growing up there she learned love of housekeeping and family.
She graduated from Bradner High School and went on to marry Elwin L. Hiser. The couple welcomed two children and lived in several states. Their travels eventually brought them to Richardson, TX in 1965, where they settled permanently.
Barbara married James A. Stephens of Mesquite, TX in 1978. They enjoyed 17 years of marriage and formed a large blended family. Barbara loved reading, gardening, baking, square dancing, playing solitaire and watching sports. She was a devoted fan of the Dallas Cowboys and Texas Rangers, but most important to her were the games of her children and grandchildren. She worked part-time at Sanger Harris department store and the American Heart Association while continuing to raise her family. Barbara was a long time member of First Presbyterian Church of Richardson.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, brother Don Hathaway (Leona), sisters Kathleen Fisher (Wayne) and Ann Elizabeth Bryan (Robert), her husbands Elwin Hiser and James Stephens, son-in-law James Britton and stepson-in-law Jim Heald. She is survived by her daughter Faye Britton, son Greg Hiser and wife Kay, stepchildren Barbara Schmidt and husband Ed, Theresa Heald, and John Stephens and wife Carol, and daughter of her heart Carrie Sivley and husband Ted; 16 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren, and many other loving relatives and friends.
The family would like like to thank care givers at Windsor Senior Living and Allstar Hospice for their kindness and support.
Memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church of Richardson, 271 N. Walton St., Richardson, TX at 2 pm on Saturday, August 27, 2016. The family will receive visitors at Sparkman Richardson Funeral Home located at 1029 S. Greenville Ave, Richardson, TX. Visitation will be held from 6:30-9:00pm on Friday, August 26, 2016.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests memorials be made to First Presbyterian Church of Richardson to support the children's ministry programs or a charity of your choice.
