He was born August 9, 1939, in Little Rock, Arkansas, to Joseph Felix and Grace Mildred Houck. His family moved to Borger, Texas, in the mid-1940s, where David resided until graduating from Borger High School in 1957. His father was the golf pro at The Borger Country Club, and David would often be found working in the pro shop, waiting on customers or as a caddie.
David loved the blues, Elvis Presley, and ’50s music in general. He was a skilled amateur artist and enjoyed snow skiing. He was also quite the hot rodder in the 1950s. He and his father rebuilt several engines designed for performance and spirited driving and enjoyed taking his mother for test drives.
David graduated from Phillips Community College and later from North Texas University, where he received his BBA with a concentration in accounting and spent most of his professional career devoted to public accounting. He was with Coopers and Lybrand for many years, where he eventually became a partner. David later went on to serve as the CFO of Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory, and in later years was part of the internal audit team at Texas Christian University.
David was a devoted Christian, husband, and father. He married his first wife, Judy Crumpton, and together they had three children, Jeff, Jill, and Jocelyn.
David was predeceased by his wife, Jo Anne, his parents, Grace and Joe, and his brother, Bill.
He is survived by his children, Jeffrey J. Houck, A. Jill Houck Brown and husband, Alan, and Jocelyn G. Houck, as well as his grandchildren, Alexandra, Lars, and Lexey, and several nieces and nephews
David was a proud veteran of the United States Army and will be interred in the Dallas/Fort Worth National Cemetery.
