Our beloved husband, father and brother, David García Saldaña, of Richardson, Texas, passed away December 13 at the age of 70, from complications of COVID- 19. David grew up in Corpus Christi, Texas, the second youngest of seven children. He served in the United States Army and received a Purple Heart for his service in Vietnam. He became aminister, receiving an undergraduate degree from Howard Payne University and his Masters in Divinity from the Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He served congregations, large and small, with a calling to serve others through the ministry. He also taught in the Dallas Independent School District for many years.
Even with all of challenges he faced in life, he loved his family fiercely and had the ability to make us laugh heartily with his jokes, some for public consumption –others, maybe not so much.
David is preceded in death by his parents, Luis Ybarra Saldaña, Sr. and Inez García Saldaña, and his brother, Luis Ybarra Saldaña, Jr.
He is survived by his wife, Alejandra Fascinetto, his children, Edward Saldaña and his wife, Maricela, Monica Martinez, and Daniela Cruz, and his grandchildren Jonathan Saldaña, Cathryn Saldaña, Kayla Saldaña, and Elijah Martinez (the youngest of his grandchildren, his “Chacho,”) and his siblings, Maria Luisa Ortegon, Guadalupe García Saldaña, Jose García Saldaña, Marisela Saldaña and Sarah Saldaña, and his many nieces, nephews and extended family. The family intends to have a memorial service for David at a later time.
