George was born June 25, 1944, to George, Sr. and Dorothy M. Cassell Campbell in Jacksonville, Illinois. He is preceded in death by them and his Sister, Shirley Campbell Wheeler. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Carole New Campbell, and children Lynn Ray Campbell, Sr.,(Holly); Kristin Campbell Quigley, (Mike); and Sandra Campbell Sillion, (J.D.). In addition, Grandchildren Lynn R. Campbell, Jr, David Fugitt (Nicole), Michael A. Quigley, III, Leo H. Sillion, Milah Rose Sillion, Parker E. Fugitt, and Riley Fugitt. He had many other close family members and friends.
He was an Army Veteran, serving in the 1st Infantry, and served as a Police Officer for 29 years. He started his career in Salina, Kansas, and retired as a Captain for the City of Farmers Branch Police Department. Following his retirement, he worked in an area that he didn’t consider work-managing Golf Stores. He was particularly fond of his positions with Wally’s Discount Golf Stores. He also treasured his time working with Kristin in her pet-sitting business and was affectionally known as "PawdaddyGeorge" by his many appreciative clients. He and his wife were long-time members of the First United Methodist Church Richardson and served on their Mission Area Work Team. They particularly enjoyed traveling with the Mission Area Work Team and serving as their cooks. He was a devout Christian and read the Bible daily. He was a Graduate of the FBI Police Academy and was awarded his certificate by William Sessions, Director, in 1988.
He was a kind and caring man, who charmed others with his quiet demeanor and smile. His family was his world, and Poppy-Pepaw will be forever remembered by his children and grandchildren. He was never happier than when letting them crawl over him and pull his nose and ruffle his hair. (Maybe when riding his beloved bicycle.) Carole and his favorite vacations were to the south coast of Maine, where they were avid leaf-peepers and lobster gourmets!
Lynn, Sr. had Dad all to himself until he was four. They still have their Indian Guides necklaces with “Big Beaver” and “Little Beaver” painted on them. He loved it when Dad took him on the motorcycle to feed the ducks and watch the planes at Bachman Lake when Mom was working 2nd shift at Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas. His girls, Mom, Kristin, and Sandra were his sweethearts. “Sammy Sue” and “Sunshine” had him wrapped around their fingers from the very start. Their Daddy will always be in their hearts.
Lynn Jr. was their first grandchild and they had the privilege of being his daytime caregiver for the first 5 months. David came to them partially grown, but he instantly became an integral part of the family. They also loved visiting J.D. and Sandra when they were living in Paris, as well as experiencing their extraordinary wedding there. They spent many happy hours with Leo and Milah when caring for them in Colorado. Sitting by the windows and watching it snow was all he needed to be happy. He loved going to Lynn and Holly’s and watching movies with them and falling asleep in the easy chair. Mike and Kristin’s vow renewals were another special time in Hawaii with the family. He was so proud of Michael and his hockey sports activities. Parker and Riley always made him break out in a big smile. He loved telling the story of how little Parker sat down by him and said, “Hey Pepaw, do you like my new shoes?”
Services will be held on October 25 at 2 PM at the FUMC-Richardson at 2 PM. The inurnment will be private. If a memorial contribution is a choice, please direct it to the Mission Area Work Team at the FUMC-Richardson, TX.
