

Giao Dinh Tran, age 81 of Dallas, TX passed away at 2:25 pm on Wednesday, September 2, 2015 at Baylor Hospital after suffering from a massive stroke on Monday. He was born on May 3, 1934 in Phu Tho, Vietnam.
He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Ty Tran; his sons, Tuan Dinh Tran and Tu Dinh Tran; daughter-in-laws, Karen Tran and Jen Tran; grandchildren, Juliet Tran, Tabitha Tran, Tyler Tran, Tanner Tran; and many other close relatives and friends.
After graduating from high school, he served in the South Vietnamese Air Force and held various leadership roles eventually earning the rank of Lieutenant Colonel prior to the end of the war. After leaving Vietnam in 1975 as a refugee, he started a new chapter of his life in the United States along with his family. Through his hard work and perseverance, he was able to take care and provide for his family throughout the years working over 10 different jobs and then finally retiring at the age of 65 from AT&T Lucent Technologies after 18 years of service.
An avid tennis player, his passion for tennis spanned over 55 years. He played tennis on a weekly basis even in the days before his passing. He played and won many tournaments and passed on this tradition to his sons and families. He also provided leadership and mentorship for the Vietnamese Dallas Tennis community.
The family will receive friends from 3-6pm, on Saturday, September 5, 2015 at Sparkman Richardson Funeral Home. Funeral services will be from 9am-12pm, on Sunday, September 6, 2015 also at the funeral home.
