

Helen Carol Knowles passed away January 28, 2015. She was born to Merritt Minor Hedden and Helen Shelkopf Hedden in Geneva, NE on Dec. 24, 1934. Helen Carol, as she was known growing up, met and married John Kent Knowles in 1954 in Wichita, KS. They started their family with two daughters, then moved on to Wichita Falls, TX, afterwards making the move to Richardson, Texas where they lived for over 50 years. They lived also in Tripoli, Libya where they welcomed a son, and also spent a few years in Houston, TX travelling for John’s work. She was predeceased by both of her parents and by her loving husband of 58 years.
During her life she enjoyed many things. She volunteered with Heights Elementary PTA and as a Campfire Girls leader. She belonged to Mobil Wives Club and Eastern Star. She enjoyed her friends and neighbors and the friends of her children whom she always welcomed. She was an avid knitter who won a blue ribbon at the Texas state fair, and was an excellent cook. After raising her three children she enjoyed working outside the home, both in retail and as the Republican election judge for Dallas County Early Voting. She loved people, animals, a good game of bridge, and her family. She also loved spending time driving her little red car and will long be remembered by neighbors zipping around Richardson on a pretty day with the top down.
Helen Carol is survived by her brother Merritt Eugene Hedden and his wife Rose of Sun City West, AZ; daughter Lisabeth Jones and her husband T.C. of Hampton, VA; daughter Dorinda Herzog and her husband Gene of Yantis, TX; and son John Merritt Knowles of Richardson, TX, and her three grandchildren; Rosser Jones and his wife Megan, Katherine Jones, and John David Knowles. She will rest with her husband at the Dallas-Ft.Worth National Cemetery.
Services will be handled by Sparkman Richardson Funeral Home, located at 1029 S Greenville Avenue, Richardson, Texas 75081.
