Brett was born in Amarillo, Texas, and grew up in Pampa, Texas, where he created cherished childhood memories helping his Grandaddy on the family farm in Shamrock. A graduate of Pampa High School, Brett pursued his passion for engineering at the University of Texas at Arlington, where he earned his bachelor’s degree. His strong work ethic and determination led to a successful 42-year career with Collins Aerospace, previously known as Rockwell Collins.
Brett shared 17 wonderful years of marriage with the love of his life, Sara Whatley. Family was the cornerstone of his life, and he found immense joy in spending quality time with his children and grandchildren. Brett valued the simple pleasures in life, enjoying moments of connection and relaxation, whether on trips to casinos, peaceful vacations to the beaches of Mexico with Sara, or quiet evenings at home. He also had a big heart for animals and adored the dogs he rescued—Caleb, Nala, and Cookie.
Brett is survived by his devoted wife, Sara; his children, Kay, her husband Matt, Cameron, Kevin, and Claire; his stepchildren, Chris and Danny, his wife Kassi; his grandchildren, Tessa, Eden, Rielynn, Paige, Nora, Lincoln, Kashtyn, Gavin, Heidi, and Phoenix; his beloved mother, Joy Balcom and his sister, Dana Williams, her husband Rex Williams.
Brett’s unwavering dedication to family, his appreciation for life’s meaningful moments, and his kindness toward all who knew him will forever be remembered and cherished.
