Jeff Richard Mercer

Richard is preceded in death by Betty June Mercer (spouse), Reba Mercer (sister), Gerald Mercer (brother). He is survived by Bettie Jean Mercer (spouse), children Jeffrie (Bill) Scott, Clyde (Julie) Mercer, grandchildren Matthew (Lauren) Scott, Benjamin Scott, Caleb Scott, great-grandchild Collin Scott.

Richard served in both the Merchant Marine and U.S. Army during WWII, leaving with a rank of Staff Sergeant of Military Police. He spent 33 years in the United States Postal Service, most of them as supervisor of mail at the Richardson, Texas post office. He also owned and operated Golden Meadow Poultry and Egg Company in Sulphur Springs Texas, and M&M Auto Sales in Richardson.

He was a diehard Dallas Cowboys fan, and he baby-sat early Cowboy legend and Monday Night Football announcer Dandy Don Meredith when he was a child.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, August 24, 2016 from 7-9pm at Sparkman Funeral Home in Richardson, Texas. Interment will be at Mount Vernon City Cemetery in Mount Vernon, Texas on Saturday, August 27, 2016.
