Margaret Estelle Bohanan Coleman was called to her rest in Jesus on July 28th, the day before her 90th birthday at the Scharbauer Cottage at Manor Park in Midland, Texas. Services will held Wednesday, August 2nd at 10 am, Sparkman Funeral Services in Richardson, TX.
She was born July 29th, 1927 in the new Methodist Hospital in Dallas, Texas to Clarence Watson Bohanan and Grace Margaret Jones Bohanan. Margaret, known as Martelle to her eight siblings was predeceased by her loving husband Tom in 2011 after 63 years of marriage. Her own mother died at the young age of 42 and her father at 87. She recently lost her brother Bill Bohanan and sister Gladys Arrington.
Margaret was a very kind, loving and generous lady. She was a teacher by profession and taught for many years in Dallas, Roswell, NM and Midland. In Midland she taught briefly at Cowden Jr. High and then fifth and sixth grade at Fannin elementary. She enjoyed seeing many of her former students through the years and learning about their lives and families.
Margaret is a Christian and was very active in the Lay Witness program, and the Homer Fort Fellowship Class at First United Methodist Church as well as United Methodist women. She also enjoyed her bridge club for many years.
Margaret was active in the women's auxiliary at Manor Park when her mother-in-law was a resident and husband Tom was Chairman of the Board. She did grocery shopping for some of the shut-in residents and would bring them baked goodies.
After Margaret retired she and Tom enjoyed traveling throughout the world, visiting their lake house at Horseshoe Bay and spending time with their grandkids. She also enjoyed crossword puzzles.
Margaret had a dry sense of humor and would spring it on us when we'd least expect it. She was fun-loving and we are so going to miss her. But we know we will see her again when she rises in glory to meet Jesus in the clouds and we join her there. Her favorite scripture was the 23rd Psalm and she had a special teaching of it. The Lord truly was her shepherd. She always said "Speak life!", and that always encouraged her kids.
Margaret is survived by her three children, daughters Beth Bradley of Arlington, Texas and Kay Grissom and husband Jon of Wichita, Kansas and son Kelly and wife Tina of Midland. She is also survived by her brothers Clarence Watson 'Tom' Bohanan, Jr. and wife Julia of Dallas, Jim Bohanan of Kansas City, MO, David Bohanan and wife Sandy of Dallas, sisters Jane Hunt and husband David and Martha Ray of Grand Prairie, sister-in-law Carolyn Carpenter of Ladera Ranch, CA, eight grandchildren, twenty one great-grandchildren and numerous nieces & nephews.
Her family would like to thank the dedicated nursing staff and caregivers at Manor Park and Home Hospice.
Arrangements under the direction of Sparkman Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Richardson, TX.
