On August 26, 2014, Michael Lewin Benatar, 63, regained his wings after a forty-two year battle with diabetes. Born in Rhodesia, Africa, Michael immigrated to the United States in 1980. A beloved father, grandfather, best friend, brother and uncle, he is preceded in death by his father Solomon Benatar, mother Margaret Lewin and stepdad John Lewin. He is survived by daughters Michelle Hogan and Monique Benatar; son-in-law Daniel Hogan, grandchildren, Austin and Abby Hogan, and lifelong best friend and mother of his girls, Tiki Pearce. He is also survived by siblings Deb Lewin, Tammy Williams, Rob and Joy Lewin, Owen Benatar, Fleur Whitten, Tony Benatar, Mandy Labuschagne, Samantha Price, Trevor Lewin, Stanley Lewin, Derick Benatar, and Grant Benatar, as well as extended family and friends across the world. A respected and influential member of the Dallas video industry for over thirty years, he was instrumental in helping launch many successful video careers. He will be loved and greatly missed by family and friends and those whose lives he touched.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00am on Saturday, September 6, 2014 at the Sparkman Funeral Home located at 1029 S. Greenville Avenue in Richardson. The family requests that donations be made in his honor to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF).
