Michelle was ambitious throughout her life and always had a desire to learn and better herself. She was a 1987 graduate of Southwest High School in San Antonio, where she was on the dance team. She attended Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio and earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology & Chemistry. Michelle went onto earn her Master of Business Administration with a focus in International Business & Leadership from Kennesaw State University in Georgia. She was currently enrolled in Vermont Law School, where she was working on her law degree. Nothing could stop Michelle from succeeding and making a lasting impression on the world around her.
She was the epitome of a workaholic – but in a good way. Her devotion to her career brought much success to her professionally and personally. She spent her career as an Environmental Consultant, working for many prestigious companies in the energy, nuclear, and environmental industries including Waste Management, Ashland Environmental, AIG, Studsvik, Sosa Environmental, and Hilti North America. In a male-dominated industry, being a woman didn’t hold Michelle back. In addition to her employment, Michelle was a member of the Austin Women’s Business Planning Committee, Texas Solar Energy Society, and was the Social Media Outreach Chair on the Planning Committee of Air & Waste Management Association. She was strong, independent, and determined and was proud to have been so successful in her career, as a woman leader in the industry.
More than her work, Michelle was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend. She cherished her family and absolutely adored her grandchildren, who were her pride and joy. Michelle was dependable and would drop anything for those she loved – you could always count on her. Her faith was the foundation of her life – her devotion to God and prayer provided guidance and strength for each new day, and she cherished her daily prayer time with her mother. Michelle is now at peace, in the arms of her Maker, and will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew her.
Michelle was preceded in death by her husband - the love of her life, David Gilbert Herr, in March 2021. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Desiree J. & Jason Distefano of Northport, New York; granddaughters, Cheryl & Skyler; parents, Arthur & Gloria Sosa of San Antonio, Texas; brother, Arthur Sosa Jr.; and sister, Shannon Kirk and husband, Karl, of Scottsdale, Arizona.
